Enter our photographic competition to win an exciting visit aboard TS Royalist!

If you are an amateur photographer you can enter our photographic competition to win an exciting opportunity for you to visit TS Royalist. All you have to do is send us a photograph taken by you and featuring a sailing vessel of any kind.

The prize is a visit to TS Royalist for the winner and up to 5 guests. The visit will be arranged for a date and location that takes into consideration where the winner resides and TS Royalist’s programme. The visit will take place while TS Royalist is alongside in port and not at sea.

The closing date for this competition is 1st September 2024 and details of how to enter are in the rules below.

Please read these competition rules before sending in your entry.

1. This competition is open to amateur photographers within the categories of Adult and Under 18. Entrants must not be professional photographers. For the purposes of this competition, we consider a professional photographer to be someone who makes more than one third of their annual income from the sale of their photographs.

2. Entries must be the entrant’s own original work and must not have been previously published or entered into other photographic competitions or  infringe the rights of any other party.

3. Entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs and must seek relevant permissions for taking photographs where required. In particular entrants must not put anyone including themselves in danger or harm’s way to capture an image.

4. Entrants may enter a maximum of two photographs (black & white or colour). The images must be appropriate and suitable for publication to a wide audience and be family friendly in content. The image must contain a sailing vessel, alongside or at sea.

5. Entrants must have obtained the permission of any people featured as subjects in their entries, who are clearly identifiable in the image, and have obtained a completed GDPR compliant photography consent form for each person. If children under 18 are featured or subjects are unable to sign for themselves, their parents or guardians will need to sign on their behalf. By submitting an entry the Square Rigger Club Charity will assume this permission is in place.  Entries must not contain close up images of people who have not explicitly given permission to have the picture published on the internet.

6. Entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photos entered. Copyright in all images submitted for this competition remains with the respective entrants. By entering the contest, entrants agree the Square Rigger Club Charity can feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, social media, and website or in any promotional material, which may include display materials.

7. Entries should be either JPEG or TIFF files ideally no smaller than 1MB and no larger than 5MB, with a maximum of 10MB per email, and with no watermarks, signatures or borders included. Hard copies cannot be accepted. Photographs must be taken within 12 months of the closing date.

8. Permitted digital adjustments include tone and contrast, cropping, burning, sharpening, dodging, noise reduction, minor cleaning work, HDR, stitched panoramas, and within-camera focus stacking using multiple exposure taken at the same location at the same time. However, nothing can be added to the images (e.g. replacing skies or other manipulation of composition). The judges reserve the right to exclude any image they believe may have had elements added or where the key items in the image, as seen by the photographer at the time the image was taken have been fundamentally altered.

9. Image filenames must contain the name of the photographer and entry category (e.g. John_Smith_Adult_image001.jpg or Jane_Brown_Under18_pic32.jpg). The date, location, subject and any digital adjustments should be described in the email.

10. Entries will not be accepted unless submitted via the official channel. Entries not submitted through the proper channel will be deleted. Entries should be sent as an email attachment to photos@squareriggerclub.org.uk.

11. The Square Rigger Club Charity accepts no responsibility for entries lost, damaged or delayed when sent by email. A confirmation receipt will be issued when we received email entries. If you do not receive this confirmation, get in touch with us so we can follow this up with you. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted and there is no obligation to feedback on any photographic entry.

12. Contact details must be provided in the email, including the entrant’s name, email address and age if under 18. Personal details will only be used for the purpose of administering the competition and will not be published or provided to anyone outside of the Square Rigger Club Charity without the photographer’s permission.

13. Your identity can be withheld if requested when the material is submitted.

14. The closing date for entries is 1st September 2024. The closing date cannot be extended or special exceptions made.

15. A panel of judges will choose the winning entries. The decision of the panel is final and the Square Rigger Club Charity  reserves the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules or in any way or brings the Square Rigger Club Charity  into disrepute and no correspondence will be entered into.

16. Winning entrants will be contacted via the email address provided during entry. If no response is received after three business days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize.

17. The prize is a visit aboard TS Royalist alongside, not at sea, for yourself and up to 5 guests. The place and date will be arranged taking into consideration the winner’s home location and the ship’s programme.  Travel costs and expenses are not included. The prize must be taken by the winner and is non-transferable. There is no alternative prize, payment, or award beyond that offered.

18. This competition is managed by the Square Rigger Club Charity.

19. The Square Rigger Club Charity reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary. For example, if circumstances arise outside of our control.

20. By entering, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these rules.
